Soaring numbers at Tamworth’s free fireworks spectacular

Tamworth Castle Grounds was packed on Saturday November 4, for another spectacular evening of the town’s biggest free fireworks event to date, with estimated crowds of more than 28,000 people joining the fun.

Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team say it was another successful turn out of families from near and far enjoying fire performers, fairground rides, walkabout characters, face painting, live music from the Touch FM stage and food stalls.

The highlight of course was another spectacular display of high calibre pyrotechnics which were launched into the sky above the Castle Grounds. The Mayor of Tamworth, Cllr John Chesworth, was on hand to assist with the countdown alongside Touch FM.

The crowd-pleasing finale again resulted in rapturous applause from the audience and the event was hailed another resounding success.

Visitors took to social media to share their pictures and comments as well as giving their feedback to members of the Arts and Events team on the night.

Commentators included Donna Edkins who said: “It was our first time attending this event and we weren’t disappointed one bit. It was absolutely AMAZING from the moment we got there to the moment we left. There was so much there to do before the fireworks even started including plenty of fair rides and an amazing selection of food stalls, we had the chicken curry - so tasty! Great atmosphere with the music! The event staff were very friendly and professional. Topping our night was the firework display that was spectacular. Watching our six-year-old son’s face light up when watching the fireworks was magical. It was so easy getting back to the car with no problems. Thank you all so much for your hard work and everything you all do to make this a great experience. We can't wait to come back next year.”

Sarah Green added: “An amazing event! The people of Tamworth are so lucky to have events like this held in their town every year! We absolutely loved it.” Pauline Dunn commented: “We enjoyed a brilliant show of good displayed fireworks, skies lit up with colour, great show and well done to the people that made it all happen.” Elaine Fisher said: “What a fab night, fireworks were fantastic. Thank you all for hard work providing us all with a free evening in grounds.”

More social media comments included: “Fireworks were spectacular!! We really enjoyed the evening.”
“They get better and better every year. My family and I love coming.”
“Amazing firework display, great stalls and brilliant entertainment for the kids. This was our first year and we will definitely be back next year”
“Brilliant display of fireworks, my daughter had a great time; well done to you all see you next year”

The fireworks spectacular is in its ninth year in the current format and has become one of the most popular events in the town’s annual calendar.

Cllr Joy Goodall, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Environment and Culture, said: “This event becomes bigger and better every year. Our thanks go to the Arts and Events team for successfully organising such a large scale event that is enjoyed by thousands of people.

“Having a programme of high quality outdoor entertainment that people can enjoy free of charge is one of our priorities as a council and we are delighted to see that it is being so well received. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for next year’s fireworks – especially as the event will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.

“In the meantime, families can enjoy more free outdoor entertainment with the Christmas lights switch on which takes place in St Editha’s square and throughout the town centre on Sunday November 26.”
