Latest pictures reveal progress on Tamworth Assembly Rooms refurbishment project

Work to transform Tamworth Assembly Rooms into a modern theatre fit for 21st century audiences is progressing well as the historic building’s interior is cleared to make way for a new design and layout.

Many noticeable changes have taken place since the official appointment of principle contractors Novus Property Solutions at the end of last year, who have been busy removing all fixtures and fittings inside the Corporation Street venue.

As work progresses on the redevelopment and the next phase of Tamworth Assembly Rooms future, we take the time to reflect on one of the venues most celebrated past memories, the night of February 1st 1963 when The Beatles played the historic venue.

Construction phase to begin on iconic Tamworth Assembly Rooms refurbishment project

A multi-million pound project to transform Tamworth Assembly Rooms into a modern theatre fit for 21st century audiences is about to get underway in earnest, with construction work due to start in the next few weeks.

Although much work has been carried out internally to survey and prepare the Grade II listed building for its £4.8m makeover, the construction phase of the project can now finally begin.

There are always stories steeped in mystery and legend when it comes to places which have stood for over 100 years. It goes without saying that if the walls of Tamworth Assembly Rooms could speak; they would have a tale or two to tell. One such tale from 1963, when The Beatles were in town legend has it that they signed a wall somewhere backstage. These writings on the wall are yet to surface and for the time being remain shrouded in mystery as the search continues...

Tears shed and flags waved during special fundraising concert

Tears were shed and flags waved as hundreds of people enjoyed an evening of remembrance which saw Tamworth’s choirs coming together to perform under one magnificent roof in the first instalment of a new two-year arts project.

Organised by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team, We Will Remember saw 200 choir members performing in St Editha’s Church alongside talented young singer Matilda Pratt and Staffordshire’s first ever Poet Laureate Mal Dewhirst.
