Bandstand Concerts back for a summer of free entertainment
The popular season of free summer Bandstand Concerts is back for 2016 and is this year bringing more performances across a wider variety of genres to Tamworth Castle Grounds.
The annual tradition sees the historic bandstand coming to life with music and entertainment for all tastes, providing the perfect backdrop to a summer afternoon.
This year the programme has been extended in both length and variety and features performances from 12 different groups, including storytelling, drama and even a circus skills workshop.
The season kicks off on Sunday June 12 with The City of Lichfield Concert Band performing a wide repertoire of music ranging from Disney to Holst’s The Planets Suite.
Dates for this year’s concerts are:
• Sunday June 12 – The City of Lichfield Concert Band

Cllr Joy Goodall, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Environment & Culture, said: “The bandstand is a fantastic feature of Tamworth Castle Grounds and it’s great that we can bring it to life in this way. The Bandstand Concerts season enables people to enjoy a summer afternoon of live music and entertainment while relaxing with a picnic in the park.
“This year the programme has been extended as part of our commitment to providing local groups with opportunities to perform while Tamworth Assembly Rooms is closed for refurbishment.
“The Arts & Events team has secured a great line-up with a variety of top local acts and well-known talent and I hope the town’s residents take advantage of the free entertainment on offer this summer.”
All performances are free of charge and take place regularly between 12pm and 4pm (subject to weather conditions).
