Head back to the 80s and join the party this April

Get ready to party like it’s 1985 with the classic musical comedy - ‘The Wedding Singer’ which will be performed at Landau Forte Academy from April 4 to April 7.

Tamworth Musical Theatre Company (formerly known as Tamworth Arts Club) presents this hit production set in 1985 when hair is huge, greed is good and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favourite wedding singer. He's the life of the party, until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.

Exciting new season of events revealed for Tamworth

Live musical shows, performances of fire and puppetry, St George’s Day extravaganza, outdoor cinema and We Love Tamworth festival – these are just some of the highlights lined up in Tamworth’s exciting new season of events.

Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team have been working hard to create a new and varied line up of shows and acts for Tamworth families and visitors to enjoy over the coming months.

This includes more Assembly Rooms on Tour, taking some of the theatre’s favourite performers out into community locations, and popular seasonal outdoor events.

Tamworth up for three awards in Midlands-wide art contest

Tamworth Borough Council has been shortlisted for three top awards in a Midlands-wide competition recognising the best of the best in arts and entertainment – and your votes are now needed to bring the titles home.

Tamworth Castle, the town’s popular St George’s Day festival and the Tamworth Arts in Unusual Spaces initiative have all been shortlisted for honours in the 2018 What’s On Readers’ Awards after being nominated by readers of the arts and entertainment guide.

Outdoor Cinema film choices revealed following public vote

Almost 700 movie lovers have voted to decide the two films that are shown at this year’s popular Outdoor Cinema in Tamworth Castle Grounds.

Votes were cast online and via social media after members of the public were invited to choose from a shortlist the films they would most like to see on a big screen in the great outdoors this summer.

The winning movies have now been revealed as Top Gun, which came out on top with 112 votes for the earlier 9.15pm slot, to be followed by a showing of Labyrinth at 11.45pm, chosen by 75 people.

Tamworth’s year of Aethelflaed: Major events planned to mark ‘warrior queen’ anniversary

2018 is a very special year in Tamworth as it marks 1,100 years since the death of one of the most powerful and influential women in Anglo-Saxon England.
It was on June 12, 918, that Aethelflaed ‘Lady of the Mercians’ took her last breath in Tamworth – the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mercia - before being finally laid to rest in St Oswald’s Priory in Gloucester, alongside her husband Aethelred.
