Come rain or shine thousands attend St George’s Day festivities in Tamworth

Tamworth’s Castle Grounds were packed with people on Saturday, April 21, for another fantastic St George’s Day extravaganza.

The sun shone for most of the day as estimated crowds of around 11,000 people enjoyed the medieval-themed fun and festivities on offer and not even the rain shower in the afternoon stopped the crowds cheering on St George and his knights.

Tamworth’s popular St George’s Day extravaganza is back for 2018 and will take over the Castle Grounds with medieval themed fun for the whole family, this Saturday, April 21 from 10am - 5pm.

Over recent years the event has become a growing success, attracting record-breaking crowds of more than 13,000 people. Another jam-packed, FREE line-up of entertainment has been put together in the hope of building on that success this year.

Tamworth up for three awards in Midlands-wide art contest

Tamworth Borough Council has been shortlisted for three top awards in a Midlands-wide competition recognising the best of the best in arts and entertainment – and your votes are now needed to bring the titles home.

Tamworth Castle, the town’s popular St George’s Day festival and the Tamworth Arts in Unusual Spaces initiative have all been shortlisted for honours in the 2018 What’s On Readers’ Awards after being nominated by readers of the arts and entertainment guide.

Outdoor Cinema film choices revealed following public vote

Almost 700 movie lovers have voted to decide the two films that are shown at this year’s popular Outdoor Cinema in Tamworth Castle Grounds.

Votes were cast online and via social media after members of the public were invited to choose from a shortlist the films they would most like to see on a big screen in the great outdoors this summer.

The winning movies have now been revealed as Top Gun, which came out on top with 112 votes for the earlier 9.15pm slot, to be followed by a showing of Labyrinth at 11.45pm, chosen by 75 people.

Countdown to Tamworth’s free fireworks event 2017

The countdown is on to the biggest and most popular event in Tamworth’s calendar as the FREE fireworks spectacular returns this Saturday, November 4.

This year’s event will be the ninth year that Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team have organised a breath-taking display to light up the skies above the Castle Grounds.

Entertainment begins at 6pm and includes fire performers, face painting, a sparkler zone, family activities, artisan food stalls and a fair. From 8pm the impressive display of fireworks, set to music, will light up the skies above Tamworth.

The sun shone as thousands of families enjoyed a great day of entertainment and activities as part of the 2017 We Love Tamworth event in the Castle Grounds.

After last year’s wash out, Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team were delighted that the weather was spot on to welcome estimated crowds of around 8,000 people to the Castle Grounds on Saturday, September 2.
